Murder or Self-Defense (Trayvon Martin)

This goes off of the flow of our website but something has to be done or said and this is the place to talk about it. As more information keeps coming out about the Trayvon Martin case the more disgusted that I have become. This is a 17 year old child that was basically murdered in cold blood yet George Zimmerman walks the streets a free man without even being charged. Yet he is able to say self-defense?!!!!! Was Trayvon racially profiled? Could it be self-defense? Is racism still big in America? How do we correct the loop holes in our justice system? Will people continue to not stand for justice until it affects them personally?
Where do we go from here?

  1. The self-defense argument is almost laughable!!! The kid was packing Skittles… Racism is alive and well, if anything more blatant than its been in years. (Yes, even though our president is Black) Tea Party rants about taking back their country, what is this implying? Neighborhood Watch??? Sounds more like Militia Group to me!!!

  2. I agree w/ Dub. When I first read the article about Trayvon, I was more pissed off because I couldn’t find the rest of the article describing the apprehension of this man!!! Self-defense?? Against the hoodie and the skittles… Yep!!! Makes sense… Racism is still a factor in our world unfortunately, but I think this issue needs to be handled NOT because a little black boy died wrongfully but because some strange man named George Zimmerman took someone’s childs life. (RACE EXCLUDED) Race is only a factor because of history, and it doggone sure seems like race plays a factor… Here is my question, since when does neighborhood watch carry anything but an orange hat and a flashlight? I have never heard of them carrying firearms… they aren’t law enforcement!!!! The freakin audio proves that he was in pursuit of Trayvon because he (Zimmerman) said so, how is that self-defense? I can honestly say this case has REALLY upset me, and I just don’t understand why he is still ree… theat all by itself speaks volumes about our country and how far we’ve got to go!!!!

    1. I meant ** I don’t understand why he is still free… that, all by itself, speaks volumes to our country and how far we’ve got to go!!!

  3. This case is not about black or white. It is about what is right. This could of been anyones child. I would like to see different races stand up for this. Enough is enough. There are two many loop holes in our justice system. What am I suppose to do go and tell my son not to where a hoodie in the cold and rain because you might be shoot???? What’s even worse is that this happens all of the time. The changes starts with us. We need to voice our right to vote. Stop worrying about a certain political party. If they not getting the job done get them out plan and simple. It is time to stand behind your beliefs and not your political views.

  4. It was bad enough when we had to worry about the senseless killing of innocent, unarmed black men and women at the hands of law enforcement. Now we have to worry about the same thing happening at the hands of fellow citizens. This case is bigger than just being a racial issue, its about allowing every and anybody to interpret the laws as they please and take it upon themselves to enforce these laws. If anybody was defending themselves, it was Trayvon Martin who was followed and then attacked by a “suspicious” 240 lb man. If this grown man feared so much for his life he would never have approached the 140 lb teenage boy. He would have waited for police to arrive and determine this child’s supposed “rogue” intententions as he “lurked” about the neighborhood. I so over the people who stereotype and racially profile masquerading as “concerned citizens” report a “suspicious” person. Why are your suspicions only aroused when it concerns young black males?

  5. The mere fact that a young teenagers choice of outerwear or fashion has even been indicated or mentioned by the media as a possible motive is a clear indication that racism is alive and well. Why is the media so intent on painting the hooded sweatshirt as the criminal outfit of choice? Everyone wears hoodies these days, esp teenagers! Anything to divert attention from the real issue.

    1. You are so right. I wear hoodies and jogging pants all the time. The issue is that a grown man is able to justify shooting a child by saying self-defense. It is very head scratching when he chased the young man down. He needs to be tried infront of a juror.

    2. Exactly. Hoodies are really big in pop culture. Look at musical acts like Justin Bieber, Tyler the Creator, anybody from Young Money and also any skateboard kids. Hoodies and skinny jeans are the trend for these kids. Wearing a hoodie is no more a justification for murder than wearing a short skirt is a justification for rape.

      1. Great point!!! I thought about that too, just like saying the way she was dressed, she was asking for that type of attention or she deserved to be raped!!! Hoodies are a trend, not an indicator of anything but warmth or fashion for some… it’s not an automatic indicator of Thug!

  6. I do not believe the justice system has wronged us we do not know what has happened. The reports say that Zimmerman was the one screaming for help. People can not just jump to conclusions without the facts. We have to keep our neighborhoods safe. People up to no good usually wear hooded because it hides there face. Zimmerman was just trying to keep his place of residence safe. People need to stop judging him and get all of the facts period.

    1. Was it wrong when Zimmerman judged Trayvon without all the facts? Zimmerman judged Trayvon the moment he called the police reporting a “suspicious person”. Again when he followed Trayvon and chased him down armed with a 9 mm pistol and a 100+ lb weight advantage.

    2. The reports and audio(fact) of the 911 call says that Zimmerman was in pursuit of this young man (he said he was after him). Point being, if you’re saying WE don’t know what happened and not to judge or jump to conclusions… how is it that you can jump to this little boy dying because he was hiding something. Lets be real, people wear hoodies because it’s cold, because it’s raining, during a jog, because it’s cool to have… a plethora of reasons, but the one people choose to assume that it’s “gangsta”! PLEASE… FACT: a hoodie is an article of clothing! not a sign of gang membership or thug activity… people of many races wear them, and if you assume that a man/boy wearing one is a gangster or thug, you are a profiler. Timeless, you have just judged this young man Trayvon, which is exactly what you’re requesting not be done to Zimmerman.

  7. Are we wrong for protecting our family, friends???? Our neighborhoods are being taken over by thugs and hoodlums everyday. When he stopped him the young man could of simply stated hey I am here visiting my dad. He live right up the street. I am pretty sure that it would not of been a problem. Zimmerman could of possibly just been looking out for his people around him. We do not know what happened. So why are we judging?

  8. you just told a story about something you know nothing about… your “scenario” has “could have” and “probably” all through it… it doesn’t sound like you’re waiting for the facts either timeless! Truth, Martin “could have” responded with that simple statement. or he “could have” continued walking because he has the right to… Zimmerman”probably” wouldn’t have cared, he “probably” did profile him! There is an opposing side to any should have, would have, could have and probably scenario you can throw out. But stop doing what you’re asking for others to stop doing, and that’s judging before you have facts.

  9. It is funny how so much more of the information is coming out now. Look at all of the pictures they make Martin look like this small helpless child. He was 6’3 i did not see any of those pictures at all. He beat up Zimmerman. I will not go all into the law but he had the right to defend himself according to the law in Florida. You can not be quick to judge the situation. He will not get convicted of murder period. Question are you going to protect your family at all cost?

  10. Would like for you to let everyone know the law you are referring in your post. Some people do not know the law. Do you think Zimmerman was protecting himself when he approached someone that was minding their own business? Zimmerman should not go to jail? There have been a couple of break ins in my neighborhood does that give me a right to run up on people that I think are suspicious?

  19. Thanks for your intriguing article. One other problem is that mesothelioma cancer is generally the result of the breathing of dust from asbestos fiber, which is a positivelly dangerous material. It’s commonly observed among employees in the construction industry that have long experience of asbestos. It is caused by moving into asbestos insulated buildings for long periods of time, Genetics plays a crucial role, and some persons are more vulnerable on the risk when compared with others.

  20. I ought to say, as a whole lot as I enjoyed reading what you had to say, I couldnt support but shed interest after a whilst. Its as in case you had a wonderful grasp on the topic matter, but you forgot to consist of your readers. Maybe you ought to consider this from far more than one angle. Or perhaps you shouldnt generalise so considerably. Its better in case you consider what other people may possibly need to say rather of just going for a gut reaction towards the topic. Think about adjusting your personal believed approach and giving others who might read this the benefit of the doubt.

  21. Thanks for your helpful post. In recent times, I have been able to understand that the particular symptoms of mesothelioma cancer are caused by the build up associated fluid relating to the lining in the lung and the torso cavity. The sickness may start from the chest area and get distributed to other parts of the body. Other symptoms of pleural mesothelioma cancer include losing weight, severe breathing trouble, nausea, difficulty ingesting, and irritation of the face and neck areas. It ought to be noted that some people having the disease never experience just about any serious signs at all.
