I pose the question: How do we get something that we really want?
In my opinion, getting to “the want” starts with the “level of effort.”
First establish how bad you want something to happen. Then ask yourself, “Are you willing to die for it?” No?!? Then you don’t want it!!! It’s that simple!
You may be like, “that’s crazy!” However, I use it to make an important point…
Put Up or Shut Up
Let’s revisit our latest/current event…
“I want” Obama to be in office for a second term, but “I didn’t put forth the effort” to vote….
If you want something then do something. Don’t talk that “I want” game if you’re really not about that life. Stop being lazy and identify what needs to be done to attain and conquer. Then freaking do it!!
I recently helped a buddy of mine with accomplishing his goal of trying to attain a job making X amount of dollars above his current salary.
The initial phone call went something like this…
My boy: “Hey bro I’m kind of upset about where I’m at with my career. I been out of school for about 5 years and I feel like I deserve and I’m worth a job making $60K or better. Someone needs to pay me man!!!”
Me: “Well what have you done to “earn” that type of salary? Have you identified jobs and organizations that pay that amount? Do you have the proper qualification for those jobs? What have you done or plan to do to get them? Do you know how or have you exhibited this correctly in your resume (i.e., education, certifications, and proven results)? Have you even applied?!?”
My boy: “Damn man. I guess I’m not really about that life cuz I ain’t done any of that sh_t!”
To make a long story short… My boy “wanted” more money, but hadn’t put forth “the effort” to obtain a job with that type of salary.
Below are a few tips to help you with this.
1. State your goal! “Say it out loud if you must” Speak it into existence and believe it’s attainable.
2. You got to be willing to go get what you believe is attainable.
3. Conduct research and identify the changed behaviors needed to reach your goal.
4. Don’t be afraid of the change. Once you figure out the key indicators for a behavior change…implement the behaviors.
5. Stop at nothing until you get what you want.
