How Important Is It to Win?

Through out life many are taught to win. We learn that winning is the ultimate prize, or at least very desirable.  Even when coach talks about sportsmanship and mother tells us it’s “just a game”;  in the back of our minds we are thinking “yeah that’s fine, I appreciate your
opinion; however I’m here to win”. The essence of winning gives us an adrenaline rush, a sense of pride and worth. Furthermore in many endeavors, winning directly affects our purse and our livelihood. With this being said, how many have pondered on aspects in our lives where winning is desirable however, it is not beneficial?

This brings us to a unique struggle of the aspect of winning which is particularly present in relationships;professional, social and romantic. Some times this struggle aligned with our
desire to win hampers or most precious connections. Picture doing the majority of work on a prestigious project that levitated your department out of the red. Although you supplied the majority of effort and your boss simply signed the paperwork; he/she is the one recognized for the accomplishment at the end of the quarter. When faced with this
scenario how beneficial is it to make your efforts known to the water cooler crowd, talk to your boss about the situation or even go to your boss’s boss and explain why you should have been recognized? Making your point known (the win)  may make you feel good but does it benefit you in your career growth or your ultimate goal to get that promotion. This is not to advocate allowing people to abuse their relationship standing, however one
should analyze their battles, and ask thyself  if winning is the most beneficial outcome?

Relationships are the central of our very being.  The capacity to build and maintain healthy relationships is the single most important condition for happiness, success and fulfillment.
In romantic relationships sometimes without knowing, we can be overbearing with our fixation of winning or inability to be submissive to one another. We often take a micro viewpoint of our daily lives and inappropriately lessen expectations of macro aspects, in other words fail to see “the big picture”; what our relationships are attempting to accomplish. This fixation of winning may evolve into arguments, resentment and/or unfortunately relationship break down. For instance “toilet seat up or toilet seat down”, although simple and mundane, this “or” has caused or has been the face of many unneeded disputes for multiple couples. 1. Everyone wants to be a winner. Sometimes with wanting to win in everything that we do we can make a bad judgement or a quick reaction to the situation that we are in. Something we like to call folding under pressure if we start to think in every situation of the bigger picture when it comes to learn that even if the boss took all the credit there is only so much credit he can take for everything. You will get yours talent can not be hidden. Keep your head high and keep going.

  2. I don’t think everyone wants to be a winner. What about all the lazy bum in the world? We do need to learn how to pick and choose our battles. Man gives Awards God gives Rewards so just be patient and keep doing what you do.

  3. LOL lazy bums. I would even like to go future how do we define our relationships that we engage in? Some people are very nice and know how to play the game but do not have friends. They get along well with people but are to themself. Everyone does need healthy relationships. That is one of the social aspects that we need in our life.

  4. I have never been the type to HAVE to win… I don’t necessarily want to lose either. But I feel like you have to care what someone else is doing in order to have the win mentality all the time! I agree with the article, but I don’t think I apply it to everything… maybe some things I have to win but it’s not consciously.

  5. The master we will have another discussion up by the end of the week. Thank you for your support and comments.

  6. I can not wait. I really appreciate the direction your site is going in. I hope you stay positive because there is so much trash out there.

  7. Human being to a mob? What’s a mob to a king? What’s a king to a god? What’s a god to a non-believer? Kanye

All about perspective in my opinion. There really are no true winners and losers in this life only players!

    1. Yes, we are all players in this game called life but there are some that are playing to win(Jordans, Obamas, Gretzkys, Birds, Buffets). Some of us are just in the game. It all depends on your beliefs and value systems if you are winning. Just because you are a millionaire does not mean you are winning! Winning is striving to be the best you in every situation. That is how you win. Which makes it your perspective if you are winning or losing.

  8. Dub… Even if you see it as “only players” and not winners or losers… there are always players (competitors) that are better than most. Couldn’t that classify a winner or loser too? Or at least a winning perspective… If I only play the game to stay afloat, I’m not necessarily a loser, but I will NOT win anything.

  9. By those standards 99% percent of us are losing. In that case 1 percent of the population is winning. The individuals mentioned may have won elections or championships and made large sums but that type of success is relative. The 1st MJ didnt win. Neither did Whitney… And someone signed all those checks Jordan cashed. So who’s really the winner???
We play the game we do the most we can everyday.

    1. I think I see what you’re saying but I kinda differ in opinion. The people signing the checks and the people receiving the checks are in the game of life but playing differently… The executive could never measure up to Michael Jordan or Whitney… but on the flip side maybe no one manages like the Clive Davis’ of the world. They aren’t in competition… but I get your point which I think is that we all play to the best of our ability… and that doesn’t make us winners or losers just players!

  10. Dub I see what you saying but I agree with the counsel living everyday to the best of your ability is winning. You don’t have to be a millionaire to win. Correct me if I’m wrong Counsel you win by achieving in your goals and beliefs striving to be the best person you can be. I think those reference were for name sake.

    1. Furthermore the general concept of the trend is truly the self employed answer to “How important is it to win?”, choosing your battles and when to submit to the greater good. Who is seeking to win in being the first through the gates of hades. Who is willing to lose so that their fellow man my win. One must utilize their morals, beliefs and spirtuallity to come up with their own answer…..so how important is it to win?

  13. We are all pieces to this puzzle called life. Winning is knowing what piece of the puzzle we are. Each piece serves a purpose. Winning is connecting your piece to someone else’s piece and another person’s piece until the puzzle is complete. This is the true victory of “winning”.

  14. I consider winning succeeding and for sure everyone wants to be successful. The thing people have to realize is that u will fail plenty of times on the road to success and that experiencing failure often gives u the tools u need to succeed and makes success taste that much sweeter. So instead of having a fixation on “winning” life should be more about always striving to win the war (the big picture) while realizing that it’s not necessary to win every little battle.

  15. That is true. Once you realize that there is a bigger picture you will learn to let the small things go and not make big deals about it.

  16. Each time I do something my goal is to win. Although that is not always the outcome, I learn from why I didn’t win. Losing is something I will never get used to.

  17. Zune and iPod: Most people compare the Zune to the Touch, but after seeing how slim and surprisingly small and light it is, I consider it to be a rather unique hybrid that combines qualities of both the Touch and the Nano. It’s very colorful and lovely OLED screen is slightly smaller than the touch screen, but the player itself feels quite a bit smaller and lighter. It weighs about 2/3 as much, and is noticeably smaller in width and height, while being just a hair thicker.

  18. Between me and my husband we’ve owned more MP3 players over the years than I can count, including Sansas, iRivers, iPods (classic & touch), the Ibiza Rhapsody, etc. But, the last few years I’ve settled down to one line of players. Why? Because I was happy to discover how well-designed and fun to use the underappreciated (and widely mocked) Zunes are.

  27. Thanks a lot for the helpful article. It is also my opinion that mesothelioma has an incredibly long latency interval, which means that signs of the disease might not exactly emerge right until 30 to 50 years after the 1st exposure to mesothelioma. Pleural mesothelioma, that is certainly the most common form and is affecting the area within the lungs, might result in shortness of breath, breasts pains, as well as a persistent cough, which may produce coughing up body.

  28. I was recommended this blog by my cousin. I am not sure whether this post is written by him as nobody else know such detailed about my problem. You’re amazing! Thanks!

  29. I additionally believe that mesothelioma is a rare form of cancers that is often found in people previously exposed to asbestos. Cancerous cellular material form inside mesothelium, which is a protective lining that covers the majority of the body’s body organs. These cells generally form inside lining from the lungs, belly, or the sac which encircles one’s heart. Thanks for revealing your ideas.
